The Ozbourn continued her career on the west coast until she was decommissioned in the June of 1975. The Ozbourn was
sold for scrap in December 1975 to General Metals, Tacoma, Washington for $157,227.00. A very ungracious ending
for a lady who so gallantly and courageously served her country for over 29 years.
The Ozbourn earned five battle stars for her service in the Korean war, and ten battle stars were earned in the Vietnam war.
In addition, the Ozbourn received the following additional awards during her 29 years of service to America:

- Meriorious Service Medal
- China Service Medal
- World War II Victory Medal
- Navy Occupation Service Medal w/Asia Clasp
- National Defense Service Medal w/bronze star
- Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal w/2 bronze stars
- Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Color with Palm)
- United Nations Service Medal
- Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
The USS Ozbourn Association regrets that a detailed history for the years 1973-1975
has not yet been located. Every attempt is being made to locate records and complete the
documentation of the life of this remarkable ship. Crew members of those years are urged to send
